In May 2017 Brighstone Parish Council received a grant from the Big Lottery Fund for the refurbishment of the public toilets in Brighstone. This work will be completed by the end of April 2018.
Budget preparation for each financial begins in the preceding autumn and is usually finalised in February. The Precept (the element of Council Tax available to the Parish Council) for the year 2018/19 is £35032. The main recurring expenses are:
Grants are sometimes sought for specific projects – e.g. the refurbishment of the Pavilion, regeneration of the Ashley Way Copse and the Memorial to the Lifeboatmen of Brook and Brighstone.
The Clerk prepares a Financial Statement each month which details the budget figures; income and expenditure to date and projected income and expenditure figures. From this Councillors are able to gauge expenditure and income against budget figures. Each year an Internal Audit is undertaken by a qualified accountant and an External Audit is undertaken at the end of each financial year. The monthly Financial Statements together with copies of Figures for the previous 2 years, including Budget Figures, the Annual Return and Internal Auditor’s report may be obtained from the Parish Clerk.
